Maine Wild Blueberry Weekend

In Maine, it’s not uncommon for locals to celebrate the gifts of the natural world. Much like Maine Maple Sunday celebrates syrup in March, Mainers celebrate the state’s unique wild blueberries in August with the Maine Wild Blueberry Weekend.

These celebrations are not exclusive to the locals, either; we welcome visitors to our state to join in on the festivities as well. If you’re going to be in Maine this August, take a look at all you get to enjoy when you take part in our Wild Blueberry Weekend.

What Is Maine Wild Blueberry Weekend?

Did you know that the blueberry is the official state fruit of Maine? We have a unique style of wild blueberry in our state notable for its high level of anthocyanins, which gives our blueberries a dazzling blue color, an unmatched flavor, and double the antioxidants of any blueberry you might find elsewhere.

It’s a natural wonder that we’re quite proud of, and we show that pride every year with our Wild Blueberry Weekend.

This annual celebration of our official state fruit involves an array of farms, wineries, restaurants, and other businesses all across the state, and it can be enjoyed by the whole family. You can try out a unique blueberry-based food or drink, take a tour through a blueberry farm, go blueberry picking, and much more.

When Is Maine Wild Blueberry Weekend?

The Maine wild blueberry can be harvested for a short window between late July and early September, meaning August is prime time for enjoying this fantastic fruit when it’s as fresh as possible. For that reason, we hold our Wild Blueberry Weekend celebration in August. In 2023, it will be held on August 5th and 6th.

The unique events held by our participating local businesses will be going on at varying times throughout the weekend, so keep an eye on the ones that interest you the most to help you create a Wild Blueberry Weekend itinerary.
