It wasn’t that long ago that buffets were all the rage in Maine. Every large city in Maine had at least one, and there were long wait times to get into the most in-demand buffet restaurants throughout the state.
Times have changed, however. Restaurants that offer buffet service are few and far between. Chain restaurants that offer buffet options have all but disappeared. The largest buffet restaurant in Maine is tucked away in a South Portland mini-mall.
Despite all that, there’s still an audience for buffet-style meals. In other parts of the country, chains like Golden Corral are among the most popular restaurants to visit, especially for breakfast.
The Daily Meal decided to look at the very best breakfast buffet in every state across the nation. Their choice for Maine is a good one – a stellar breakfast buffet quietly hidden in a swanky York Harbor hotel.
That would be Shearwater at Stage Neck Inn. The Shearwater overlooks the ocean so you get premium views with your delicious feast. There are plenty of breakfast standards on the menu, including cereal, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries and fresh fruit.
But there’s also some high-end menu items to grab too. Shearwater offers eggs Benedict as part of their breakfast buffet. Not only that, visitors can dive into their deep fried french toast to satisfy any indulgent craving.
