York Harbor, Maine - Points East Boating Magazine's Mystery Harbor

Point Easts – The Boating Magazine for Coastal New England – has named York Harbor, Maine as the Mystery Harbor for January/February.

Each month, Point East asks readers to identify their mystery harbor share something about the harbor, such as how you recognized it and some reasons you like to hang out there. Here’s what responders had to say about York Harbor:

“I believe the mystery harbor is York Harbor in York Maine. I, along with family and friends, used to charter with the late-captain Richard Witham aboard his Maine Coaster that was docked at the York town dock.”Alan Brown Branford, Connecticut

“I think the January/February mystery harbor is York Harbor. Stage Neck Inn on the right and the tip of Bud Donnell’s house on the left. One of the prettiest harbors in Maine with great food at the inn and nice walk along the river.”Catherine Morazzi Wareham, Massachusetts

“We used to stop there for the night when heading north from Connecticut, in our Dyer 29. Always fun making the turn at Stage Neck. The staff at York Harbor Marine couldn’t be nicer and always a good meal to be had at Dockside and adult beverages.”David Devens Chester, Connecticut

“I recognized this photo of York Harbor immediately because for 20 years I have launched and hauled my 22-foot Cape Dory at Dion’s Dock on the other side of the yellow home on the left, with Independent Boat Haulers of Eliot, Maine, providing the transportation and winter storage. The current in this harbor deserves respect. The York harbormaster is very helpful arranging accommodations when I need to arrive a day early. The walk between Dion’s and the town dock is very pleasant and relaxing, right along the water’s edge. A special harbor indeed!”Peter Griswold Ogunquit, Maine

“This is the York River in York Harbor, Maine. The picture was taken just south of the lobsterman’s dock where there is a place to launch kayaks and other small boats. There are also picnic tables where I like to sit during my walks. This is on the road out to York Harbor Marine. I live in Kittery and walk here often. There are many nice walks in the area. We haven’t been here by boat in many years, maybe this summer.”Alan Kelly Kittery, Maine
